How to treat an editor on Conservapedia

I know I’ve moaned here about how Terry Koeckritz is driving away editors from Conservapedia, but I thought it prudent to give you a really clear and shining example of how he works. The irony behind it all is that he wouldn’t get away with it, unless the other administrators allowed him to… which they do, by remaining silent. Which means, by implication, that they are also quite happy for Conservapedia to die a slow death from lack of editors, or they are seriously scared of him – after all, the only Administrator who did stand up to him, has since been demoted and blocked from the site (and branded a vandal) – all because of the lies Terry told to Andy… who for once took action – but typically, the wrong action and too late. (PS Don’t worry Jpratt... I haven’t forgotten about you, it’s just that Terry’s special brand of idiocy deserved a special mention.

Case in point is the editor Hsmom. She’s a homeschooling mom, in other words something that’s right up Andy’s street. She’s also been a long-time member of Conservapedia, with her first edit being made in March 2007. Given the orgasmic glee the sysops take in blocking people, this makes her a very old editor indeed. Andy even gave her editing rights (which allows people to edit outside of the usual open time of 8am to 12 am EST), but maybe it’s telling that she never received upload or blocking rights and was passed over for sysop-ship last time round.

You see, even though she is a member of Conservapedia, Hsmom has a conscience – one that won’t let her shut up when she’s confronted with utter bullshit (of which Andy, sadly is the main provider) and certainly not when confronted by plagiarism – something she is very vocal about and something for which Terry has quite the reputation. Overall, she’s polite, well-spoken, clearly intelligent… and not scared to speak her mind. The problem is all of these are anathema on Conservapedia, especially where the admins are concerned, because time and time again, she makes them look stupid (which, when you think about it, isn’t hard.) Andy, fair play, has been tolerant, probably not wanting to admit granting her editing rights was a mistake. leave it to Terry to swagger in, following her last most recent criticism (actually that’s a bit harsh – I’ll go with constructive advice instead) as he attempts to show just what a big fish (in a very, very, very small pond) he is. Ultimately he just ends up looking like what he really is – a bully, only able to exert any kind of authority on a small, going-nowhere wiki that nobody cares about, except those who point and laugh.

Here’s his reply in full (I’ve bolded the interesting bits) and a link, just in case he decides to burn the evidence of his rank stupidity, which he already managed to do when reverting somebody who thanked Hsmom for her efforts.

I don’t know what is scarier, Hsmom; the idea you buy into the liberal clap-trap, in a sort of Pollyanna ignorance, or that your existence here at CP has been one of constant liberal apologist, totally disconnected from the deceitful history of their past actions. How often have we seen “recommendations” made by government stretched to outlandish actions all in the name of “the children”?

I have tried, on many occasions, to approach you privately, without the grandstanding public argument usually produces, to no avail. So, I now invite you to contribute materially, substantively, without making liberal-slanted (and divorced from reality) posts like those above. If you cannot or will not, I believe Wikipedia might be a better fit for you, and I wish you Godspeed and best wishes for your future efforts.  ‘‘Per your own wishes”, there will be no further communication, warnings or argument.

What I love with all that is his ongoing insistence to hide things off-wiki, because then there’s no proof of what he could have said. Good for Hsmom for ignoring his efforts. His invitation to contribute “materially, substantively” is laughable, when one has a look at the idiot’s own “material and substantive” edits. That is one thing he does NOT do… too much like hard work, when there’s editors to abuse and drive away.

About PsyGremlin

PsyGremlin is a former Conservapedia sysop (although the position was earned nefariously), stand up comedian, DJ, and is currently a self-employed financial adviser, who impersonates a responsible adult at least 5 days a week. However, highlighting and poking fun at the crazies out there remains his first love. Well besides pork crackling. And custard. And cricket.
