Art Imitating Idiots

We all know that the antics (not to mention the articles) at Conservapedia lend themselves to parody in the most wonderful fashion… unless you, like Terry Koeckritz don’t know the meaning of the word, in which case they lend themselves to lies and teh liberal deceits. In fact, somewhere on CP (probably the main page talk archives, if they still exist – we know Andy’s talk page archives have mysteriously vanished) is a comment by him that parody does not exist for precisely that reason. Er… I mean, that parody is actually lying of course, not that Terry doesn’t understand the meaning of the word. The latter goes without saying. Indeed, a vast amount of parody still exits on the site – which we can’t reveal for obvious reasons, even though most of it appears to have been written by Andy Schlafly himself.

What is fun, however, is when you come across a wholly unintentional parody, where you almost feel that whoever wrote it had an in-depth knowledge of Conservapedia and the “personalities” (for want of a better term) of those running it. A classic example comes from the episode of “Red Dwarf” entitled “Pete,” which predates CP by several years (around the time a pre-Internet Terry was possibly trolling the YMCA gym) and which contains the following wonderful bits of dialogue:

Capt.: I understand you played an idiotic prank on a senior and much respected officer yesterday.

Rimmer: That’s not true Sir; we played the prank on Mr. Ackerman.

Lister: Mr. Ackerman is so… horrible, Sir.

Mr. Ackerman: I am not, Sir! I’m extremely nice. Lovely, in fact. Warm, caring, but most of all nice – hence my nickname, Nicey Ackerman. That’s why I entered the service, Sir, so I could share my sunny disposition with inmate scum, who didn’t have my start in life.

I love the last bit, given how Terry so often tries to defend his actions by claiming how reasonable he is – remember him calling himself “the second best mediator” on CP… right before blocking another hapless editor? In fact, replace “Sir” with “Andy”, “service” with “Conservapedia” and “inmate” with “liberal” and it really could be Terry speaking.

Reality – gotta love it. Now just to find a way to expose Andy Schlafly and his minions to it.

About PsyGremlin

PsyGremlin is a former Conservapedia sysop (although the position was earned nefariously), stand up comedian, DJ, and is currently a self-employed financial adviser, who impersonates a responsible adult at least 5 days a week. However, highlighting and poking fun at the crazies out there remains his first love. Well besides pork crackling. And custard. And cricket.
