… but I’m still going to post it, because it’s either a wonderful piece of trolling, or one of the most batshit insane comments I’ve yet seen by a fundie.
Ok, first, for those of you not familiar with Poe’s Law, it states the following: “Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won’t mistake for the real thing.” Unfortunately, during my time writing this blog, I’ve seen plenty of examples that could easily pass for a Poe – most of Conservapedia, for example – but sadly, I know it not to be the case.
So, why am I calling Poe on the example which is to follow below? Well, mostly because I haven’t been able to track down the original source. The image, containing the full text (below) comes from Yahoo Answers, but a search on there doesn’t reveal it. Likewise, the link provided on Fundies Say the Darndest Things doesn’t work. Then again, thye FSTDT post dates bask to 2006, so maybe it’s just old and fell off the various boards. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence on various sites, but I’m going to keep an eyebrow raised until I can find the original post and see exactly where it was posted, in what context and what the reaction was.
Then again, as PZ Myers so eloquently put it: “Look, people, we live in a country with Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and Joseph Farah as prominent media sources; where Akin and Broun and Jindal get elected to high office…”so, yeah, anything is possible.
Anyway… enough pussy-footing around. Allow me to present possibly the dumbest thing ever uttered by a human being:
No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest “cover” of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims.
Atheists are a different sect of Muslims. You know, having heard that now and given the kind of rhetoric coming out of the US, what with Chuck Norris’ “creeping Shariah” and Bachmann wanting to have McCarthy-esque witch hunts to find the secret Muslims in Congress, I could almost believe that quote to be real.
After all, it’s no less bizarre than Jerome Corsi finally throwing whatever bit of human decency he had left (he lost all credibility a long, long time ago) and calling Obama a secret homosexual.
Then again… maybe the OP is onto something. A secret sect of Muslims, hmmm? Well, according to the Qu’ran, Mohammed (PBUH – yeah, I don’t feel like getting death threats) says that everybody is born Muslim. It’s your parents who make you a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist. Or a Muslim.
Anyway, I thought I’d throw this out there. Here’s the full post, in case you’re feeling strong and can handle industrial strength what-the-fuckery:
